Experience

I love to teach and tutor because I love the language and the building of knowledge. Part of what I like to teach students is not only about the rules of English, but how to actually USE it in the real world. It's great to learn words like "cow" and "hypersonic," but unless you're a farmer that works for NASA, those might not be very useful words for you; so I try to create a lesson that is useful and interesting for each student. I have taught at private English academies as well as online, and have experience working with children, teens, and adults. Given an option, I prefer to teach in person, as it provides more of a connection to the material and makes it easier for the student to absorb, but I am open to online sessions as well! I taught English to students of various ages and abilities in South Korea from 2012 to 2015. No matter their age, beginning and lower level students focused on phonics, reading, and vocabulary, while upper-level students covered everything from advanced grammar and structure to composition, and improving public speaking. I also devised and taught a TOEFL test preparation class, in which all students raised their scores significantly in speaking and writing after eight weeks. I know English can be very difficult, but anything that is worth doing is hard, and besides, that doesn't mean it can't be fun too! In addition to English, I have some experience teaching history and science through the K12 program, as well as a lot of experience with theater and film acting, so no matter what you're looking to learn (quantum physics aside), I can likely help you figure it out, study it, and conquer it!

Hobbies

I love to read and write, but I often don't have much spare time for it, as I often find myself more devoted to developing lesson plans. Fortunately for me, I also enjoy that, as it constantly furthers my understanding and allows me to devise new ways to teach old ideas, and so reach more students! I also love to travel (I've only spent 9 of the last 48 months at home!), trying new food, meeting new people, and gaining new perspectives on everyday thoughts, which I get every day that I teach.
